Introduction to Assigned Pooling – Workshop ✨🧶

Join us for a relaxed and inspiring two-hour workshop and discover the playful world of Assigned Pooling!

Assigned Pooling is a creative knitting technique that uses specially dyed yarn-primarily a solid or tonal color with short bursts of contrasting accent color. You knit the background color using a simple stitch, then work a special textured stitch whenever the accent color appears. The way the yarn is dyed determines where these beautiful details will fall, making every project completely unique.

Together with Laurie, we’ll explore how Assigned Pooling yarn is constructed and learn how to “read” the colors in your skein. You’ll discover where the accent color begins and ends, how to select the best place to start knitting, and how to assign a special textured stitch to each colorful section.

Laurie will introduce you to several of Dawn Barker’s Assigned Pooling cluster-stitch techniques, including the beautiful effects featured in designs such as Float, Sprout, Glide, Pop, and Superbloom. These techniques create playful flowers, clusters, bobbles, puffs, nupps, elongated stitches, stars, and other beautiful textured details.

After exploring the different possibilities, you’ll choose your favorite cluster stitch and practice working it whenever the accent color appears. Laurie will help you repeat your selected stitch, maintain the background pattern between the colorful sections, and troubleshoot the placement of your motifs.

You can then use your favorite technique to begin creating your own unique Assigned Pooling version of Martina Behm’s Hitchhiker scarf. No two scarves will ever look exactly alike-the yarn will guide the placement of every special stitch!

🧶 Skill Level

This workshop is perfect for advanced beginners and experienced knitters who would like to explore a fun new technique.

You should be comfortable with:

– Casting on
– Basic knit and purl stitches
– Binding off
– Basic knitting and handling your needles

No previous Assigned Pooling experience is required!

– One skein of fingering-weight yarn specifically dyed for Assigned Pooling, approximately 400 yards
– US size 4 circular knitting needles 
– Two stitch markers
– Basic knitting notions

To participate fully and begin practicing during class, you will need yarn specifically dyed for Assigned Pooling.
