My First Hat – A Beginner Knitting Workshop ✨🧶

There’s something special about knitting your very first hat - whether you make it for yourself or as a thoughtful handmade gift!

Join us for a relaxed and inspiring two-session workshop and discover the joy of knitting a hat in the round. Together with Laurie,  you’ll learn the techniques you need to create your own cozy hat, with hands-on guidance every step of the way.

During our first session, we’ll review your cast-on stitches, go over the beginner-friendly pattern, and learn how to join in the round without twisting your stitches. Laurie will guide you through working the ribbing and knitting in the round so you can confidently continue the body of your hat at home.

During our second session, we’ll come back together to shape the crown. You’ll learn how to work decreases, knit with double-pointed needles, and finish your hat.

A printed, beginner-friendly pattern is included, and refreshments and snacks will be provided for you to enjoy while we knit together. 🤍

🧶 Skill Level

This workshop is perfect for beginners who are ready to knit their first hat.

You should be comfortable with:

– Casting on
– Basic knit and purl stitches

No previous experience knitting in the round is required!

Part 1: November 5 • 11:00 AM – 12:30 PM
Pattern reading, joining in the round, ribbing, and knitting the body of your hat.

Part 2: November 12 • 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Decreasing, working with double-pointed needles, and finishing your hat.

🧵 Please Come Prepared With

– Aran- or chunky-weight yarn
– Circular knitting needles suitable for your yarn and the pattern
– Double-pointed needles in the corresponding size
– Stitch markers
– Basic knitting notions

📝 Homework Before Class

Using aran- or chunky-weight yarn, cast on 72 stitches onto your circular needle before the first session.

Please do not join in the round or knit any rows - we’ll begin together in class!

Between sessions, you’ll continue knitting the body of your hat so you’re ready to work on the crown during our second meeting. Laurie will explain how far to knit before you return.

Registration & Cancellation Policy

Cancellations made less than 24 hours before the event are non-refundable and non-transferable.

A minimum of 3 participants is required. If the minimum is not reached, we reserve the right to cancel or reschedule the workshop. Participants will receive a refund and priority access to a future session.
