Discover the joy of knitting with color!

Join us for a relaxed and inspiring workshop and learn the beautiful technique of stranded colorwork in the round, the technique used in Fair Isle knitting. Working with two colors, you can create lovely patterns - perfect for hats, cowls, sweaters, and more!

Together with Laurie, you’ll explore how to work with two strands of yarn, carry your colors, and manage the floats behind your knitting. We’ll practice keeping an even tension and giving your floats enough room so your fabric stays smooth and comfortable. There will be plenty of time to practice, ask questions, and build confidence, with hands-on guidance every step of the way.

This one-session workshop focuses on learning the colorwork technique through a practice sample. At the end of class, Laurie will introduce a few approachable colorwork patterns to inspire you, so you can head home ready to start your first colorwork project in the round. 🤍

🧶 Skill Level

This workshop is perfect for experienced knitters who are comfortable knitting in the round and ready to expand their skills.

You should be comfortable with:

– Casting on
– Basic knit and purl stitches
– Joining and knitting in the round on circular needles

No previous colorwork experience is required!

🧵 Please Come Prepared With

– Two clearly contrasting colors of DK-weight or worsted-weight yarn - both yarns should be the same weight; practice yarn or leftover yarn from your stash is welcome
– Preferably smooth, solid-colored yarns so you can easily see your stitches and colorwork pattern
– 16-inch circular knitting needles in a size appropriate for your chosen yarn
– Stitch markers
– Basic knitting notions

We’re happy to help you choose your yarn and matching needles! Please stop by during our yarn hours before the workshop so we can help you get everything ready.

📝 Homework Before Class

This workshop requires a little preparation beforehand. Using one of your two colors, please cast on enough stitches to comfortably knit in the round on your 16-inch circular needle.

Join in the round, taking care not to twist your stitches, place a beginning-of-round marker, and knit 5 rounds.

Leave your stitches on the needles and bring your prepared knitting, along with your second, contrasting color, to class - ready to explore colorwork together!
